Online Security

A digital certificate, also known as a SSL Server Certificate, enables SSL (Secure Socket Layer encryption) on the web server. SSL protects communications so you can take credit card orders securely and ensure that hackers cannot eavesdrop on you. Any eCommerce company will require you to have SSL before you can use their services.

Secure, encrypted transmission is recommended, and required by many card processors, including PayNet. This insures that cardholder data cannot be intercepted. SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol is the current standard. If your payment pages are located on the servers of a payment gateway such as Authorizenet or Versign Payment Services, then SSL is included with the gateway service. If you plan to host your own payment pages, and send the data to the payment gateway through an API, then you will need to make those payment pages secure. Your website developer should be able to incorporate SSL without difficulty.
